About Maya

Hi! I’m Maya. I’m a permaculture designer and Ecoliteracy teacher who has lived, gardened, harvested, cooked, and homeschooled in Joshua Tree for over 20 years. My partner, Damian, and my son, Oliver live with me and are certified permaculture designers too. I’m a kitchen witch and lover of ease. I practice the art of Frugal Hedonism. I’ve participated in more than 5 (I lost count) full permaculture design certification courses. I’m trained in Revaluation Counseling, Forest School Teaching, Early Childhood Education and more. I have studied developmental psychology, NVC, Somatic nervous system regulation, and Wayfinder Coaching. I’m a lifelong learner and seeker. Right now what I care about most is building community for human thriving and relationship with the land. I like to ask myself “what could go right? How good can it get?”

  1. Very interested in your progress and how your ideas pan out. I’m only in the southwest temporarily, but while I am here I am volunteering time to put in sustainable gardens and permaculture ideas at a UU fellowship. Good luck, I’ll be reading and borrowing what I can from your blog for ideas on what to do with my projects.

  2. Love what you guy are doing, please keep us posted as we learn as you do! Keep up the good work and hope your days continue to be fruitful 🙂

  3. It would be wonderful to hear an update of what plants grew well for you. I just moved to the Morongo Valley area last year, and we’re getting our “yarden” going. Your plants lists have been invaluable. Thank you!
